Sekuntom Story
It began with a gift — a simple one, but unforgettable.
Fresh from a trip to Cameron Highlands, her soulmate handed her a bunch of flowers, a few tiny cacti, some soil, and even a little pack of fertilizer. It was thoughtful, chaotic, and oddly perfect. The flowers were vibrant, alive with the highland breeze still clinging to their petals. The cacti, small but strong. The soil smelled like rain. She placed them on her table, right next to her books, her poems, her half-finished thoughts.
At first, it was just a sweet gesture. But later that night, in the quiet that always seemed to follow her deepest realizations, she sat and stared at the blooms. And that’s when it hit her — it wasn’t the whole bouquet that moved her. It was just one. Just a single flower, right in the middle. The way it stood there, soft but sure of itself, changed something in her.
That one flower — sekuntum in Malay — became more than just a word. It became a symbol. Of presence. Of simplicity. Of how sometimes, one honest thing is enough to make you feel full. It reminded her of how she felt writing poetry: pouring heart into something small, hoping it blooms quietly in someone else.
That’s how the name came to be. Sekuntom, spelled with an ‘o’ — a rounder sound, softer, like the way she speaks when she reads her poems out loud. Like the shape of the moon she always looks up to. Like something whole. Personal.
She never planned to build a brand. She just wanted to share something that felt real. Like her poetry. Like that moment. And so, Sekuntom was born — not from trend forecasts or glossy marketing plans, but from the same place her best poems come from: love, stillness, and the beauty of small things.
Sekuntom is for the woman who doesn’t shout to be heard. Who walks with grace, with intention. Who knows that softness doesn’t mean weakness. It’s for the ones who find poetry in nature, comfort in quiet, and power in simplicity. Inspired by the sky above Ipoh, the lush hills of Cameron, and the kind of love that doesn’t ask to be seen to be felt — Sekuntom is Shahirah’s way of turning her inner world into something you can wear, something that speaks without saying too much.
Because beauty doesn’t have to be loud. Confidence doesn’t have to come with glitter. And sometimes, just sekuntom — one bloom, one feeling, one piece — is more than enough.
That’s the story. A gift turned into a moment. A moment turned into meaning. And meaning turned into something you can carry with you — softly, beautifully, every day.
